Unfinished Christmas..........

Post by ShirleyC »

I had planned to put the Cardinal/Snowman design from EmbLibrary on some flour sack towels for Christmas. I stitched 2 using different methods of stabilizing, and had problems with the outline being off. Plus I got a late start waiting on the towels. I bought the flour sack towels from Amazon, and I do like them because they aren't perfect, and have a vintage look IMO. I washed and dried them, and then I have to starch each one and iron several times. I've always spray starched things I embroider especially 100% cotton. I detest wrinkles, and everything just stitches better when ironed.
I was able to "fix" the gaps on the sewing machine on the first 2 I did. This is the one I did yesterday using the fusible tearaway that came with my machines. It worked really good, but I added an extra layer underneath when it got to the heavy stitches on the bird. That kept it from puckering.
I also used the same stabilizer with the 2 Cardinals on a Limb. I love, love this design. To me it looks like the hand embroidery my mom used to do.
This is the stabilizer in case anyone wants to look.

I love those. thank you for the tip on stabilizers, always a question there as to what will work. Also, on starching and pressing, I don't think I do that as much as I should.

Just so adorable!

Those are beautiful! I love the info on the stabilizer. I had one I did for Ella that had so many color changes in one small spot. It puckered like crazy. I told Britt I would not use that design again. Now maybe I will try it using your method!

Those are perfectly done, Shirley!! And, you are so right about using enough--and the correct kind--of stabilizer to get such great results!
