The best rice I have ever made.

Post by nonie »

I made it in the oven!! I have heard all sort of praises about this baked rice and finally today I tried it. Absolutely the fluffiest best rice I have ever made or I think I have ever had.
Now this is for one or two so adjust the recipe:
5 inch baking dish
oven 375
Ingredients:
1/2 cup long grain white rice
1 cup boiling water
1 Tablespoon butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
Cover tightly with foil

Preheat oven to 375
place white rice(not instant) in a oven safe dish add butter and salt
pour over hot water
stir and bake 30-35 minutes until water is absorbed fluff rice with a fork.

It was so good!

Interesting! I think older than most of the group here, and I’ve never heard of baked rice other than in a casserole. My favorite is the rice on bottom. Chicken on top, with mushroom soup and water for rice mixed and poured over the chicken. Covered with foil and baked. (Sorry I’m not home, so don’t remember oven temp or for how long.

I had never heard of baked rice, wonder if it is a southern thing. I am relearning how to cook for one, so am following

Finding some great ideas and of coarse you can always make the recipes bigger.

I don't think it's a southern things - at least not in this area, except like Karen said, in a casserole.

My Mom was a lunch lady in the High School Cafeteria and this is how they cooked rice to serve at lunch to the students.
