Woohoo! I made a tote bag!

Postby Jenny Jo » January 4th, 2017, 2:28 pm

This is the Basic Bag from the book The Better Bag Maker. It came highly recommended by Bunny. The fabric is quilting cotton from the "Playful" line by Cotton & Steel. This is not an ordinary, cheap-o tote bag, though in all honesty, I've never made an ordinary tote bag, either. Anyway, it's got a magnetic closure, a compartment pocket, and a "discreet" zipper pocket. *tee hee* :hehe: The author always used that adjective, "discreet," as if it needed to be kept a secret what ladies carry in their purses. 8) I suppose she could have just been emphasizing how inconspicuously and cleverly she placed the zipper..... You can decide. :P

Anyway, I love the pattern, and I love my bag. It is very well designed and constructed. It's surely the most sturdy tote bag I own. It is not a one-hour sew.

The longer I look at it the more I wish that I'd made it with solid-colored handles. But, oh well. I still love it. I'm realizing that I'm definitely attracted to navy blue.

Look how precisely the zipper abuts the facing! Yippee!

It looks terrific Jenny Jo! That zipper placement is spot on. I love the fabric - it's really fun.

Jenny Jo, I love your bag...and I am only judging right now by the fabric...MY childhood...you only needed marbles to tell my whole story of games and toys!!!

Seriously, the bag looks terrific. That 'essential' pocket is the only reason to have a bag any larger than 5 X 9 :D

What a cute bag. I think I'm going to try one since my local library owns a copy of the book in question. I LOVE the fabrics you chose. Maybe I'll have to see if one of the quilt shops near me has them...

What a lovely bag. I'm sure it will be very useful. I love that neat zipper. You did a great job with colour matching the zipper to the fabric too.
