Red Tunic

Postby nana judy » November 1st, 2016, 5:35 am

This is the latest tunic. The pattern is McCalls 7122. The fabric is a 4 way stretch knit from Walmart. it is one of my favorites. The pants aren't really leggings but a knit very slim leg stretch pant I bought last year at Penney's. I actually bought a size larger than I wear. They are a heavier knit that most leggings yet still look like leggings.

GREAT outfit, Judy. Red is a wonderful color on you and this looks so sharp with the black pants. Awesome job.

Judy, you are going to force me to grab that pattern! That is my very favorite style to wear. It is so comfy and looks slightly dressier to me than other shirts. I'm not a t-shirt kind of girl, so these are my go-to tops all year long. I really need to do several for my fall/winter wardrobe. Yours are always wonderful! And that red is such a beautiful color on you!!

Judy, I am going to try making this tunic for myself! There are two pieces of knit in my stash, that have aged way too long. I do not even remember where or when I purchased them, but planned on making dresses that never materialized. They are actually more of a winter knit, and may even have a little bit of wool. It's been so long, I don't even remember.

Do you have any suggestions or warnings, before I jump in? I have read the instructions, which use a regular straight stitch, but a double row. Is that how you do it, or do you use a serger? I don't have a serger, but do have serger-like overcast stitches on my most of my machines. I was also wondering about using the elongated zig zag stitch used when making CC Bunny's Nightie, and some of the other CC knit patterns.

This style is very similar to a tunic I purchased at Anthropology a few years ago and love! I have not been able to find any similar that fit well, or in fabric I like. I don't necessarily love the knit in my stash for this project, but it will be a good muslin! Thanks for any hints or suggestions!

Judy, the others have said it all...the red is beautiful on you, and the tunic and pants are perfect together.

I must say I did chuckle a wee bit...it is December and you are wearing lovely sandals to match, and I wore wool socks in the house today with shoes!!! You just look cold to me.... :snow: :snow:

Nice work though!
