Cross-stitch aida cloth

Postby lexie » October 30th, 2016, 3:07 pm

My grand-daughter has a partially completed cross-stitch which has
become slightly marked in the area where she holds it as she is stitching.
The aida cloth is white and the stain is a creamy colour.
Would it be safe to dab lemon juice on the stain with salt
and place it in the sun?.
I have told her to wear white gloves in future while she is
stitching.
I would be so grateful for any ideas concerning this problem.
Thanks in advance

I don't see where it would hurt anything, defiantly worth a try.

I wouldn't treat it at all. I would wash the item after it is finished. I always do that with embroideries and cross stitching.

I'm an avid cross-stitcher and I agree with genniewren. I would just wash the piece when she is finished with it. I'd let it soak in luke warm water for a few minutes and rinse it several times. I used to use Ivory flakes to wash my pieces, but now use Dreft. (This is what I do if the piece is stitched in color-fast floss and not over-dyed.)
