What a Dummy!

We all make mistakes and have mishaps while sewing. This is a place to share those 'oops'. Did you do a great save?

I was having a problem getting my gathers even on the cap of a sleeve when the bright idea hit
Why not use clear elastic on the cap of the sleeve, it will be perfect.

It is if you remember not to pull the sleeve cap as you are sewing it into the armhole! I had perfect gathers all over!

Wonderful save! There is a product called Seams Great that is a sheer tricot made just for this purpose, (and a few others). I have used it and it works great. It is very thin, so doesn't add bulk and you just stretch it from notch to notch as you stitch it in. It will smoothly gather up the sleeve cap. In the big four there is often too much ease in the cape. Sounds like you have found a good save for this problem.

When I had it, I used the Seams Great when I had it, but, I'm a make do person and it would have worked if I'd have sewn over the gathers. Live and learn.

Thank you for answering my question. I have become ADDICTED to this forum. It takes me a long time to finish a project, and you all create the most beautiful items and have time to add items to the forum - WHERE do you get all the time to do everything you do! I have no kids at home, but between work, and DH (is that "shorthand for "Dear Husband?") I really have to squeeze time out for sewing!
