Need yardage amount--possibly a Angela question

Postby nonie » January 7th, 2018, 1:05 pm

Since Angela has made the tube quilt and maybe others have also made this quilt, I need some yardage help. If I use two strips 2 1/2" wide, and a solid piece to make the tube. With my goal of making a four ft table runner, how many yards of each fabric would I need? I am thinking of using shades of brown, and for the solid piece possibly using a tan or cream. I know I will also need a backing and a boarder. Any ideas on how to figure this out?

Nonie, I am familiar with this block. the first class I tookmwith Jennie Doan at the retreat several, years ago was the tube quilt. I just watched her tutorial. She got two blocks probably 9.5 inches Square out of the two 2.5" strips and a 4.25 inch strip. I would think you would want at least 3 blocks, then at least two border strips.

So it is dependent upon how big you want your table runner...length and width. That can be any size.

Here is the link to Jenny Diane's MSQC tube tutorial. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vOWSp0mTTqE

This may help you: I am not familiar with this person, but looks like she does what Jenny Doan does.

Nonie, I used Vickies 'recipe'. For her cloth with one border strip it goes like this

5" color A. You will cut into 2 2 1/2" strips width of fabric
5" color B. You will,cut into 2. 2 1/2" strips width of fabric
Color C. 9 inches (1/4 yard) You will cut into two 4 1/4" strips of fabric

Border and backing calls for 18 inches

The triangle at each end will require 1/4 yard total. Just a couple pieces are cut out of this.

Have fun!!

Sorry I'm just seeing this Nonie. I wound up with way too many strips and have enough to make another full lap quilt!

Angela, could you share details? What size was your strips? How many strips did you sew together? What did each block measure?
