I'm learning how to do ruler work!

Postby KarenVA » April 2nd, 2017, 7:18 am

I have the Bernina #72 foot for home machines and some rulers (the Bernina set and some arcs from Patsy Thompson http://blog.patsythompsondesigns.com/ ). Playing around is so much fun!!! I'm amazed that I can do this!!!

So, now I'm following along with this tutorial:
https://www.bernina.com/en-US/Experienc ... r-Quilters

I shopped in my stash and found fabric--woohoo. I can't wait to get it pieced so I can do the ruler quilting!!

Gosh, I have to say that ruler work is really great!! It helps keep my quilting lines even and not wonky!! I sure plan to practice more!! Here are two links that show my progress and the finished table runner:

This looks interesting! I have heard about ruler work, but only or thought they were only straight rulers. More growth...thanks!

Well, Nonie, it's sort of free motion--but you use a special foot and guide it along a 1/4" thick ruler to get even lines of quilting. So, you move the fabric and the ruler together. Here's a link to Amy Johnson's Blog where she demonstrates how to do it. I took a Craftsy Class by her and learned so much.
