Comparison of Kingstar and Superior Thread

Post by KarenVA »

Okay, Shirley--I finally did a comparison stitch out of Kingstar and Superior Threads metallic. I used a 14/90 Topstitch needle and two layers of hooped AquaMesh. I put the thread cones on my multi-spool thread holder on my sewing machine.

This is what I learned: The Gold Kingstar thread did the whole design with no thread breaks. The green ST metallic had three thread breaks on the bell and one on the tree--no breaks with the silver. I rinsed all of them the same--Kingstar seems just a tad bit stiffer, but still has a nice "hand". The sheen on both threads is great.

I think the Kingstar has no breaks because of the way it comes off the cone--it doesn't "coil" off and create kinks.

So, it seems Kingstar is better (no breaks) for embroidery and ST is better (no loops) when using the decorative stitches on our machines.

They all look great bbut thread breaks are no fun. Do you use a thread stand?

Thanks for the info! Very interesting!
I used Kingstar again on a stocking, and it didn’t break, but I had to use a net and watch it closely so it wouldn’t get caught on the top of my machine even with a thread stand.

Shirley, have you tried putting the spool in a tall glass on the floor?
