Frannie sew along

Postby nonie » July 4th, 2017, 8:34 am

I am putting the Frannie Sew along here: I think it fits, as I hope we learn a lot from sewing this sweet little dress.

Karen has started and has hers cut out:

I pressed my fabric this morning. I think it is a piece I got from Kathy and it is so pretty but lighter then air so we will see how it works out being a Frannie.

pretty! I can't start on this until I get a couple dresses made up for the magazine - maybe by next week I can catch up with everyone!

I have mine cut out but that is about all the back will take for the day. So, marking and interfacing tomorrow.

This fabric will be a challenge but I love it! It is lighter then air, so will need a slip.

Love your fabric. I hope Kathy D and Alina join us soon. I'll be going slow, and trying to post each major step, but really want it done by the 14th.

From the picture you can see the Frannie offers two versions, one smocked and the other is not smocked but gathered. I think it is best to do both versions for future Frannie makers.

So Karen is pleating hers and will smock it.

So today I put the bodice pieces together. I just used the instructions that Jamie had written. So here they are:
Page 4 under Construction........"Join the shoulder seams........". Stop reading and don't even try and understand what it says, you have 4 pieces to sew together front, back, front, back.

Start with your bodice front and we are going to make a big circle. With right sides together and all our seams going on the same side, join at shoulder seams, front, back, front, back and back to the original front. It should look like the photo Nonie is posting for me.

Then you fold on the center of the back pieces and bring the shoulder seams together like a lining and front like you would normally do

Darn!

I should have pulled out my copy of Frannie yesterday, while waiting for the AC technician, and joined you! I completely forgot.

Hate to admit, I have never used my copy of the pattern. Maybe I can quickly finish my OFB project, and catch up!

The steps for these are my last post. Today I will just be finding a small floral design to put on the pocket, and collar. I spent 2 hours digging through "stash" to find the right color blue that I've decided the collar needs to be. But, I may change my mind on that and go back to the original white idea. Anyone else do this type of thing? Change your mind as you proceed through a garment?

Yesterday was a bust as far as working on my dress. So no new step today, or probably until Tuesday. I have a new idea about the piping, but need to go to JA's in order to buy some more fabric. I have a construction worker here today so I'm stuck at home, and tomorrow is church day, so won't go then. I'm also getting a bit discouraged by the fact that no one except Nonie has joined in this. I just don't have the skill to be leading this, I NEED HELP! I know Kathy D will be joining this coming week, but I sent instructions to one member, and a new full pattern to another member, and that hasn't even encouraged them to join, and I know many have this pattern. I don't have grands that I'm sewing for, so this is going to be a charity dress. I understand Jerry, so no pressure here on her. I can't imagine the challenge she is doing now.
Please consider getting out your pattern and joining.
Karen

PS: Iron died today, so will have to wait for Costco to open for me to proceed..

Karen, you are doing fine leading us in making the Frannie. Many are watching this post and many are also following and will probably never post on line. I have replies for the blog post I did on the sew along, so I know others are following. At last count you have about 169 views. so keep on keeping on. :D
