Baby Placket

Postby nonie » July 9th, 2016, 3:09 pm

Is anyone familiar with the closure, called a baby placket, which is done in the center of the back without a seam? Hope I described that right. I came across instructions to do the placket and have never done it. Has any one here done a placket like that?

Is that like the one Jeannie Baumeister does? If so, I have. It is soooo sweet.

I would be interested for info on how to make this placket. I want to do something like this on Kathy D's Jane top in the newest Classic Sewing magazine instead of buttons down the back. Susan VH

This type of placket is used in a lot of older heirloom patterns, and as Jerry mentioned, on many of the OFB patterns. There are several variations.

Debbie Glenn created a method that leaves no raw edges, which some variations do. Here is her method, which was published in SB. For this, you do need to use a fabric without noticeable right and wrong side; solid color batiste, broadcloth, etc.

It's in Elizabeth Travis Johnson's Complete Book of Sewing for Children (page 22-23) as well.
