APRIL CHALLENGE---VENTURE OUT

APRIL CHALLENGE---VENTURE OUT

Postby nonie » March 31st, 2011, 11:30 am

No! Not venture outside but venture out of your box. Try a new to you techique or change a pattern such as KathyD has shown us, where you add smocking where there is no smocking shown on the pattern. Another example--Betty added ruffles to make a whole new design.
Maybe you have never tried lace insertion or using a fabric that scares the wits out of you.
I know we will see some wonderful ideas and we will all learn something new.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...
I know just what I am going to do...
Mom had enough silk left over from the CG that I am going to try some heirloom sewing. My plan is to use the leftovers to make a collar using The Children’s Corner Fancy Collars Pattern…WISH ME LUCK!

hmmm, I wonder what I can try, there are many techniques that I want to try with knitting and crocheting, does it have to be with fabric???

I want to try my hand at some broom stick lace, never done that before, or maybe making socks (or gloves) on a long circular needle rather than 5 double pointed needles, both require that I buy new stuff

No, it does not have to be just using fabric. We have all kinds of talent here and so many things to learn. Maybe some ides for anyone stuck--have you tried ccrocheting, knitting, tatting, shadow embroidery, hand embroidery, getting a better hold on your embroidery machine. What about a craft you have wanted to learn to do? Just step out of your comfort zone. Then share your new project and tell us if you liked it, how you did it ect.

:rotflo: I didn't realize this was a bag at first and had this nasty thought, "I can't believe she'd put something that short on a ten year old and with leopard. Oh, my!!! :rotflo: :rotflo: Of course, it's an absolutely cute bag and I love it now that I realize it is a bag. Very cute!

Cute bag. I also thought this was a skirt at first, and couldn't believe how short it was for a 10yo. Glad to know this is a purse! Very cute!

Well, I hope it's okay for me to join in here :) so please, if I've broken any rules, do let me know so I won't do it again.
I 'm new to the forum but I recently tried several new things (in one).

I've always loved smocking. I've never ever tried so I decided I would try it on my new embroidery machine (part one of venturing out was learning to set up and use the emb machine).
Sooo, I decided I would do machine smocking on some tiny doll dresses. Great...uhh well, those large smocking files won't work on a two and half inch width! I had to download software and digitize my own. No problem since I am pretty proficient with Photoshop and vector based drawing programs right?...riiiight...LOL! That's what ya' get for being full of yourself and thinking ya' know everything ;)
I did finally come up with something I could work with both by learning to reduce some free designs and by drawing out my own.
Here are the results:

You are going to LOVE Anastasia here on the board. She makes clothes for those little dolls also. So glad you've jumped right in! Darling outfits, and so very, very tiny. The small hoop should be fine for you with your embroidery machine.

Ok, this is my first attempt at a challenge, but with coaxing from a few ladies on here, here it is. The pattern is S3510 Project Runway. My "venturing out" is the fact that it has pintucks on the top front and back bodice, which I've never done, flutter sleeves with lace and lace and elastic neckline with tie. It took me a few times reading the neckline directions, you attache the elastic to one end of each tie and then run it through the neck with the elastic and the the ties are the only thing showing on each side, hope I explained that well enough to know what I'm talking about. :rotflo:
Love the purse and the doll clothes are fantastic, would'nt even attempt that.
