Does this stuff have any value?

Postby scorekeeper » June 19th, 2017, 10:49 am

I hope its ok to post this thread in this forum. Here goes.

My mom recently passed after nearly 96 years. In going throwing her things, as you might guess we found lots of interesting stuff related to sewing, knitting, and crocheting. One thing is a bunch of buttons and other fasteners, some of which are likely very old. I have absolutely no idea if any of its worth anything or how much that would be, so I’m hopin’ to get some kind of idea from the folks here.

We also found a Brother KH-601 knitting machine and stand. As far as I know, if it was ever used, it wasn’t very much.

If necessary, I can post some pics.

I truly appreciate any help.

I'm sure that there are valuable things in your mom's stash. I would check on Ebay and see what similar things are going for.

So sorry for your loss. Losing a mom is so hard.

Sorry for your loss.

I definitely second Kathy's recommendation. Ebay is the best place to check values on some of these things. It will probably be surprising what is worth money and what isn't.

When I check prices I do the search two ways, first I just look to see if the item is currently for sale and make sure to check the box where it says include the description because often people don't even really know what this stuff is. Then I go back and to the advanced search and check only sold items. There you find out what people actually got for their items. There are some sewing books that are out of print and some things like smocking pleaters that are in big demand on Ebay.

Good luck. I think it is nice that you aren't just throwing all the stuff out!

Thanx so much for the good ideas.

It just seems to me that throwing away things like that is like throwing away her time finding them. Seems disrespectful to not at least try to get them in the hands of someone who'll use them.

We do have a "Sales and Wants" section here. I don't think it works real well, but at least it's free. Most of us here already have way more than we need or want.

But, Karen, we could easily be committed for the size of our stashes and the willingness to add to them!

The knitting machine could have some value to you. Go to Ravelry.com and visit the Machine Knitting boards and you should get some help and possibly a buyer.
