Sorry for the "e-place" comment, Bunny. I've edited my message to say "eBay" - some places don't like the eBay sellers to get too much free advertising so I was being overly cautious. It comes from too many years of political correctness in the workplace. The book is wonderful, b...

I didn't know whether to bring this to the top again or post to a new topic. I've just seen the book "Lady Evelyn's Needlework Collection" on eBay if anyone's interested. Item number 320090690790 End time: Mar-15-07 07:37:45 PDT The Seller's name is dowchaser. I mention this because they h...

I've seen them made using pre-glued paper tape too - the type they use to seal the back of framed pieces. All the articles recommended doing it in cool weather because you can build up that summer 'glow' if it takes a while. I'm tempted to make one for how I used to look - wake up to that each morni...

Hi Karen, that Embroidery of Madeira book is probably a fairly good price because it was very expensive (at least it was in Australia) when it was first published and is still in great demand. I'd give my eye teeth for a copy - well almost, because then I'd have toexplain it to my non-stitching dent...

Bunny, I remembered another one of the nicest whitework books - it's "Lady Evelyn's Needlework Collection" by Mary-D i c k Digges, Dolly Norton Fehd, Nancy Lawson and Martha Vogt Embroidery Research Press, 1988, ISBN 0-92933-00-2 It's out of print, but you can see the cover at http://www.t...

Here's a wonderful exhibition of whitework http://lacismuseum.org/whitework.html Click on the slidewhow and sit back and enjoy. Then click on the link for the catalogue (same page as above) and download the pdf file for reference As you know, the Maderia embroidery grew out of English whitework. The...

Hi Bunny, These are wonderful! Thanks again for sharing, and particularly for the close-ups. I almost stood on my head for a while to work out how they crocheted the tiny ricrac to make it form scallops, and it's so simple and so creative. If only we could get such fine ricrac now... Looking at the ...

I forgot to add that the "Best of" magazine is where they revisited the very, very early AS&E issues that were no longer in print (the ones that go for a fortune on ebay). The earliest issues were Black & White, then around issue 9 or 10 they had a few coloured pages with the pictu...

Hi Bunny, that would likely be unsold stock returned by the Distributor when the next issue arrives. CB has it's own retail store too, so it could be one of their own unsold shop copies. Magazines usually go to a distribution network, who send them to the retail points nationwide. At the end of the ...

More lace time? Oh yes, please! The more the better - those are so beautiful. I saw some you posted a few weeks ago when I first joined and have been looking forward to seeing the next set of photos. Thank you so much for sharing your lovelies, and I especially liked that wonderful batiste.

Hi Heather, thanks for the welcome. I haven't started any quilting because I'm afraid of the bug ;-) To be honest, it's more that I can't fit the stash if I start quilting. Many friends have tried to get me hooked, but as I say to them, if they start collecting Christmas ornaments, I'll start collec...

Hi everyone, thanks for your very warm welcomes, and please forgive this general reply to everyone. I'm new here so I'm not sure how to reply individually to each person's message. Like California, it doesn't snow in Sydney but we do get some frosty mornings in winter. Nonie, I'm on the east coast, ...

Hi everyone, Just a quick Hello from Sydney, Australia, where it's summer and I'm about to melt because it 's been a wee bit too hot to stitch for the last few days. I've been smocking for a few years now and love it! I also enjoy embroidery (by hand) and dabble with heirloom sewing on occasion too....
