Re: Sew Beautiful

1. Smocking 2. Picture Smocking 3. Hand Embroidery 4. Heirloom Sewing 5. Something for the boys Notice I don't even choose to rank Machine Embroidery. I don't own an embroidery machine and don't plan to purchase one. Just not my thing. My personal opinion is that SB should keep their emphasis on han...

Re: A Hemming ??

As I've heard it, there's a couple reasons for a deep hem on a little girl's heirloom dress. Firstly, it allows for upward growth of the child, of course! Another reason I was once told, is that due to the general light weight of heirloom fabric, a deep hem adds more weight on the bottom of the dres...

Re: Sew Beautiful #120

I spent some pleasant minutes looking through it but nothing in this issue particularly inspires me.

Copies of OOP AG doll patterns available!

Just wanted to pass along this website. The AG doll patterns once made by The Pleasant Company are long OOP and go for big $$ on ebay. Someone tipped me off to this website with actual downloadable copies:

Re: Emmeline apron pattern

Vanessa, it's a one-size-fits-most. Meg, the designer, says she thinks it fits best up to size 16 US. For the one I sewed for my plus-sized, amply-endowed sister, I just widened it a couple inches and lengthened the bodice piece an inch and a half.

Emmeline apron pattern

I LOVE this pattern! That said, there are a few changes I made based on my personal preferences. But first of all, here's where you can buy this cute reversible apron pattern: EDITED FOR NEW LINK (website now called Sew Liberated): http://www.sewliberated.com/patterns.html You can see a photo of my ...

Princess Designs - sad news

One of my favorite (and the most reasonably-priced) online smocking stores is closing! :( Here's a notice posted by Diane of princessdesigns dot com on another forum I visit: "As many of you know, I have fibromyalgia. I also have sleep apnea but the cpap is making such a wonderful change for me...

Re: im ready to learn!!!

Thanks for the compliment about my avatar.... I have a "thing" for hamsters!

I've never done applique and can't offer any help with that. I don't even own an embroidery machine though I have a goal to purchase one some day!

Re: im ready to learn!!!

Hi from another Michigan-der! I'm Donna and I live in the Detroit area, how about you?

I like to sew and smock for my dd but now that she's almost ten, she's not so interested in wearing my creations. I'm going to have to find a new smocking victim!

Re: glue

So you glue it, wait for it to dry, sew it, and then wash the garment when completed?

Re: Let's Talk Fabric

Here's some decent info on fabric types: http://www.fabrics.net/cotton.asp It doesn't mention voile, which is lightweight sheer that can be made from cotton, silk, poly, etc. The word originates from the French meaning veil. Liberty of London is a manufacturer of high-end expensive fabrics. For smoc...

Re: Tell SB what you think!

Rettabug, my occasional disappointment in an issue is simply the fact that little, if anything, suits my personal taste or is appropriate for my use at that time. Of course, I certainly don't expect SB to conform only to MY tastes! Overall, I enjoy the magazine and continue to subscribe.

Re: Tell SB what you think!

Good idea suggesting Angela from dandelionavenue, Katrinka. She's a favorite ebay designer of mine!

Re: Tell SB what you think!

Nonie, I suggested Gail Doane. Frankly, I really don't know many of the designers names. Her name popped in my head when I was taking the survey. I like her stuff. Of course, I think she's already been in SB!
