Re: Very basic serger help needed!

Stephanie, thank you so much - I've worked it out! On my piece of scrap I drew a line 5/8" from the edge and lined up the left needle along that line. It worked a treat. I've marked my machine and I'm ready to go! I'm cutting out my skirt fabric now and hopefully will whizz up the seams on the ...

Re: Stitches and Functions

What a great idea! I've always been nervous with anything more complex than a zig-zag stitch. I'm going to give the sampler a go.

Re: Very basic serger help needed!

Hi Stephanie

Many thanks - it did make sense. I'll try it out on some scraps of fabric before I start on my garment. I'm really looking forward to putting my machine to proper use.

Very basic serger help needed!

Hi everyone! My very wonderful husband has bought me an overlocker (serger) as an early birthday present. However, I've never used one before and am really unsure about how to use it. My first stumbling block is a really basic one (and if I didn't already know that you ladies NEVER laugh at us cluel...

Pink Ladies jacket pattern?

Hi girls. It's been absolutely ages since I posted anything, just been so busy! Have managed to make Chloe a couple of summer outfits (will post pics soon) and have signed myself up for a beginners dressmaking course starting in September - can't wait! Anyway, back to my query. Chloe has been invite...

Another problem I get is getting the leg measurements right. I've got quite short legs so I usually need to shorten the pattern but at the moment it's rather more luck than judgement. I'm not sure where to measure my legs or how to make the measurements correspond to the pattern. It's probably very ...

Hi Betty

Thanks for the advice on that. Just to get it clear in my head - the measurement from my waistline to the chair should be the same as the foldline at the waist to the crotchline on the pattern. Is that right?

Adjusting a trousers (pants) pattern

I'm three quarters of the way through making myself a pair of trousers and I've now realised that the crotch is much too low :( . I know that there's a way of measuring myself and then altering the pattern accordingly but I don't know what measurements to take or how to use these measurements when t...

Oh Bunny, I wish I'd had this tip last week! I completely messed up a pair of trousers and had to unpick all the seams and start again. It took me ages to pick out all the threads! I think I shall be investing in a large eraser this weekend! I really love all the tips people give - I'm a real novice...

I've got a Janome 6260QC and I absolutely love it! I'm a real beginner when it comes to sewing but some of the functions on it make life so much easier, for example the automatic tension (I could never get that right before). I have to admit, I committed the cardinal sin and didn't try it out before...
