How do I hem jeans while saving the orginal hem?

I have some jean for Jamie that I found on clearance ( $4.00 ) that need to be hemmed as they are way too long for her. I know there is some way to fold the fabric and stitch along the original hem stitching so that you don't have to cut off the original hem to shorten. Right now I am having senior ...

Re: Anyone know what this is?

If it had holes in the bottom and the teeth were closer together I would say it is a rake for raking cranberries from the bogs. But it is missing drain holes for the water to drain out. Also the teeth are too far apart for that job so I have no idea what it is for.

Re: Quilt label

Linda, try this link http://www.pnw-embroidery.com/Pages/Elvis.aspx. Freebies are usually found on the Samples page. Sorry I don't know how to make the link clickable.

Re: Simplicity 1722 All comments and suggetions welcome

Yes Jan, Jamie is little for her age. Most people think that she is 12-13 years old when they first meet her and she is now 26. When I buy shorts or pants for her I buy a girls size 14 so that they will come up high enough and loose enough to cover her diaper, with pants I usually have to cut off ab...

Re: Simplicity 1722 All comments and suggetions welcome

Jerry, I did look at Laurie's gown when I was researching free patterns for hospital gowns. I felt that since Jamie is so small that I would be better off trying to find a non-empire style gown pattern. Jamie is only 4'7' and she measures a girls size 12 for bust, hips and waist and a girls size 10 ...

Re: Simplicity 1722 All comments and suggetions welcome

Linda and Karen, I will fold out some of the fullness then when I trace off the pattern to make the muslin I will redraw and true up the cutting line. I may reconsider how much I add to the back for the overlap. I have not done the flat pattern measurements on the original pattern as of yet so we wi...

Simplicity 1722 All comments and suggetions welcome

Jamie will probably be having surgery in the next month or so to remove the goiter on her thyroid. The goiter has started to interfere with her eating and breathing so it is time to remove it. The last few times that Jamie has been in the hospital I have been very frustrated with the hospital gowns ...

Re: Topic is organizing--

Nonie, I occasionally buy crudité (celery, carrots, etc. ) pre-cut in divided trays. I wash those and save them to use as segmented drawer dividers for holding all sorts of little items.

Re: Another quilting question

Nonie, you could do bar tacks in the shape of the Mariner's Compass in the upper right hand corner then do random bar tacks through out the rest of the placemat field.

Re: 18" doll sweater pattern

Thank you Nonie for re-sizing and posting the picture for me. The pattern is Genine's Yolande' lacy tunic and hat pattern for 18" dolls. The pattern is for US size 1 or 2 yarn using a US size 2 needle. The pattern is very well written and easy to follow but I did frog stitch the lacy leaf cente...

18" doll sweater pattern

I recently tested a knitting pattern for Genine for 18" dolls. This is a tunic but I don't have any pants for my 18" doll. With her tights it looks like a mini dress. I tried to add a picture but the file is to big and I have no idea how to make it smaller.

Re: Advice/Books on Sewing Canvas for Tents???

Use carpet or upholstery thread to sew with. Use the largest needle you can find ( denim or18/100). Sew together using a flat-felled seam. Buy zippers by the yard and add the zipper pull. You will probably need to pre-wash the canvas so any waterproofing ( spray on or the iron on vinyl) will adhere ...
